Firefly Environment and Training Consultants (Firefly Environment) is proud to offer
comprehensive environmental consulting services, built on a foundation of over 25 years of
expertise in the mining industry. We specialize in environmental management, regulatory
compliance, and sustainable practices across various phases of mining operations, from
exploration through to decommissioning. Our principal consultant, Nancy Duquet-Harvey
has an extensive background in leading environmental initiatives, particularly within the
gold mining sector, with a proven track record in collaborating with Indigenous groups and
managing complex environmental challenges in both Ontario and Nunavut.
Our qualifications include:
- Extensive Experience in Mining Operations: Over 25 years of experience in
environmental management within the mining industry, with a focus on permitting,
compliance, water management, and reclamation activities in Northern Canada.
- Proven Leadership: Leadership roles such as Senior Director Sustainable
Development and Environment at Critical Elements Lithium Corporation and
Environmental Superintendent at Agnico Eagle in Nunavut, overseeing environmental
management during mine expansions, and spearheading significant environmental
initiatives. As Chairperson of the Ontario Mining Association's Environment
Committee, we have organized large-scale events and collaborated on industry-wide
environmental standards.
- Expertise in Permitting and Regulatory Compliance: Managed permitting and
approvals for multiple mines, with experience working directly with government
agencies, consultants, and stakeholders. Oversaw the permitting process for the
Rose Lithium-Tantalum Project and the Young-Davidson Mine, negotiating Impact
Benefit Agreements (IBAs), and ensuring compliance with both provincial and federal
regulations.
- Consultant Management and Project Oversight: Skilled in managing
environmental consultants, including reviewing project scopes, budgets, and
deliverables, while ensuring timely project execution and compliance with legal and
environmental standards. Oversaw consultant activities for water management,
tailings, and reclamation efforts.
- Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Committed to fostering relationships
with local Indigenous communities and other stakeholders. Collaborated with Inuit
groups on caribou mitigation measures and managed community outreach programs
to address concerns and engage in discussions about environmental impacts.
- Certified and Educated Leadership: Holding a Bachelor of Science in
Environmental Management (with honors) from Royal Roads University, along with
professional certification and technical experience as a Mining Engineering
Technician, we bring a high level of academic and field expertise to our consulting
services.
